1 ~ Significant Local Church Linkages.
The E .C. S. Diocese of Yei has formed a football team mainly comprised of the youth. They were able to raise their own funds and bought one pair of uniforms for their team. Therefore when the Fly Sports leagues are running they were able to participate and take part in the league, this then enables Fly Sports to have direct links with them.
Secondly, the Zamba church congregation have also formed two football teams which are currently taking part in the Fly Sports Yei football League. Through the activities we were able to have direct contact with them and develop a relationship.
2 ~ Individuals & Transformation
While coaching one of our football teams we came Sudan Health Center one Moses who had problems of violent anger. However, Moses had solid skills for football, and he played a good game until he was hit or felt cheated. Continued coaching and counselling gave him the ability to work on his temper and frustration. We encouraged him to release his anger on the ball and playing instead of fighting. After a period of time he improved and became the Captain of his team. Now he is the coach of the team and taking leadership in organizing the Club. We have even absorbed him in Fly Sports as a part-time Coach for the teams.
3 ~ Psychological/ Social/ Political Change
It is evident that levels of trauma are going down compared to when we started work in 2005.There are now fewer instances of hooliganism or fights between players during matches. Also the level of confidence and self-esteem is higher.
Introduction of girl’s football has also helped to build confidence in the girls.
Improvement in relationships within the youth community and Sudan Health Center the gender boundaries is one very notable outcome. This is enhancing the stability of girls in school. The local leaders have become more interested and active in supporting sports; as a result the County has introduced the County Cup Tournament.
4 ~ Spiritual Growth
The Salt and Light Discipleship Ministry has helped many of our players and school children to develop personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For example, in the primary schools where we have gone, many have responded to the gospel and have given their lives to Jesus Christ.
This has come through conducting morning Devotions in schools and also through the Salt and Light Ministries Discipleship programmes in the schools; Teachers are supportive of this program.
