Yei


Goal
To improve the quality of education for the church of Christ and the community as a whole in Yei River County.
Objectives
Objective one
To establish a consistent quality Teacher Education and Training Programme in Yei River County and develop local expertise to sustain it.

Objective two
To improve the performance of teachers and the quality of teaching in the primary schools of Yei River County.

Objective three
To increase the availability of school materials in primary schools and help them to function better.

Objective four
To improve the performance of the primary school supervisors of Yei River County and enable them to do a quality job.

First pre-service TT class began in May 2006 with 42 students following curriculum from Kyambogo University. Only 35 completed the second term due to much confusion in the counties with regard to teachers salaries.

Bari Level 3 course for Group 2 of 30 participants.

Process of affiliation with Kyambogo University continues as well as the application to resister with MOEST.

New classrooms, dormitory, library and Admin block in use by students and staff.

A new Vice Principal appointed.

First lady tutor appointed to teach English and have special responsibility for female students.

Two training days held for the IBOG

Regular IBOG meetings held during the year.

The books purchased in 2005 were catalogued and the library set up and in use.

Principal accepted for a Commonwealth Scholarship for an MA in Education in London.

3 new staff recruited.
Achieving our Mission
Trained teachers are better able to plan and deliver quality lessons as seen by monitoring and lesson observation of previously trained teachers.

The affiliation process and registration with MOEST are significant steps in the status and reputation of YTTC at both County and State level.

Participation of key stakeholders on the IBOG and the training courses are helping to develop local ownership.

All students at YTTC are given a Bible (or NT for short courses) as a personal gift. Daily devotions are a regular feature and appreciated by students, visitors and even seconded tutors from MOEST.
Future plans
Complete the fencing of the college as some squatters are removed. An independent driveway to the road will be built. The second dormitory to be completed as funds allow. Continued renovation of the older structures.

Second class of pre-service to start in May 2007.

Recruitment of 4 new members of staff to manage the additional class and cover a broader range of subjects.

Continue with the process of affiliation with Kyambogo and registration with MOEST.

Possible Fast-track In service teacher training in partnership with UNICEF and MOEST, for totally untrained teachers.

Head Teachers Management training course.

Refresher Course for School Supervisors.

Introduction to the teaching of Children with Special Needs.

In – service refresher course for YTTC tutors to up-grade their skills.
